Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

SALISBURY, MARY. - Colin Kleven turned-in the best starting performance by a pitcher this season as the BlueClaws took their first game against the Shorebirds, 8-0.

Kleven became the first BlueClaws pitcher to throw eight innings this season, and he faced the minimum 24 batters in doing so. He allowed just two hits in 8.0 shutout innings, but induced two double plays following those base hits.

For Kleven, it was his career-long outing surpassing his previous long of 7.0 innings set in Williamsport last season and matched three times with the BlueClaws in 2012. His record stands at 6-7 with a 4.40 ERA.

The BlueClaws led just 2-0 through six innings before opening the lead with a run in the 7th inning, another in the 8th inning and four in the 9th. The BlueClaws recorded just five hits in the ballgame and no one finished with a multi-hit game, but Brian Pointer and Maikel Franco both scored two runs.

The BlueClaws square off against Delmarva in Game 2 of their four-game series and send Moises Rivas (1-1, 6.38) against Delmarva's Miguel Chalas (9-5, 4.97).

First pitch for Tuesday's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Listen to all the action on WOBM 1160-AM and WOBM 1310-AM beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the BlueClaws Beat pre-game show.
