DOUBLEHEADER TONIGHT: West Virginia and Delmarva's game Thursday evening was postponed due to rain. The clubs will play a doubleheader tonight starting at 6:05 pm. The gates at Appalachian Power Park will open at 5 pm.
POWER REPLAY: West Virginia swapped 2-0 shutouts with Augusta on Tuesday. The GreenJackets hit two solo home runs off of Zack Von Rosenberg in the first game to provide the only offense. In the nightcap, Jose Osuna's two-run homer in the fourth was the difference. Nick Kingham gained the win with six innings of two-hit ball and Clario Perez notched his second save.
DOUBLE THE FUN: The Power are 5-3 on true doubleheader days this season. West Virginia split a twinbill at Asheville on May 2, split a day-night twinbill on May 25 with Kannapolis, took two from Rome last Friday, winning 6-1 and 9-0, prior to Tuesday's split at Augusta.
SHUTOUT STORIES: The Power have now been blanked four times this season, including game one of Tuesday's doubleheader. West Virginia pitchers had not recorded a shutout all year until last Friday's 9-0 win at Rome, spanning 92 games. Power pitchers needed just four more games to added their second whitewashing of the season with the 2-0 win in the second game on Tuesday.
SUCCESSFUL SOUTHERN SWING: West Virginia went 5-3 on their recent eight-game trip, marking the first winning road trip this season. The Power won seven road games during the entire first half and have already won nine times away from Appalachian Power Park during 17 second half road games. West Virginia has 18 road contests left this season, including seven on the next road trip that starts Monday in Greensboro.
ONE MORE FOR 100: Delmarva returns to Charleston for the second time this season for a four game series that begins tonight. The Shorebirds took two of three at Appalachian Power Park in early June and won three of five in Salisbury, MD, from June 29 through July 3. Delmarva leads West Virginia in the all-time series by one win at 50-49, but the Power are 30-24 at home in the set since 2005. Each of the nine remaining games between the clubs this year is to be played in Charleston.
RELIEVER SWAP: The Pittsburgh Pirates transferred Porfirio Lopez to the West Virginia roster from Bradenton on Thursday and shifted Clario Perez to State College. Lopez spent a portion of the 2011 season on the Power roster and has made four relief appearances this season over two stints in the South Atlantic League (1-1 with a 7.94 ERA). Perez went 1-1 with a 5.84 ERA over 16 appearances with two saves for West Virginia this season.
PROMO CHECK- July 20: West Virginia has rescheduled Purple Power Night for this evening. The team will wear purple jerseys that will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting pancreatic cancer research.
POWER POINTS: West Virginia has now hit 66 home runs through 96 games this season. The 2011 club hit 63 over 138 games... Jose Osuna has hit ten home runs this season, eight of which have been on the road... Eric Avila has at least one hit in six straight games... Zack Dodson is 1-1 against Delmarva in his career with a 4.63 ERA over three starts. Pittsburgh added Raul Fortunato to the Power roster and placed him on the disabled list, though the outfielder is not actually with the club.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh was off on Thursday and opens a three game series against the Miami Marlins tonight at PNC Park... Indianapolis beat Gwinnett 5-4 in ten innings on a walk-off single by Eric Fryer... Altoona's game with Erie was postponed due to rain and the teams will play two tonight... Bradenton beat Tampa 4-3... State College knocked off Williamsport 7-4.
