Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Kannapolis starter Matt Lane worked a career-high 7.0 innings to pitch the Intimidators past the Charleston RiverDogs, 5-3, on Friday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. The left-hander had to wait out a 1:13 rain delay before the game finally began. Lane (3-3) gave up just one run over six hits while striking out four and walking none to earn the win.

Charleston starter Scott Allie fanned the first three batters he faced in the bottom of the first, but Joey DeMichele reached base on a strikeout-passed ball. With two outs and DeMichele on first, Kevan Smith connected on a two-run home run (6) to centerfield for an early 2-0 lead.

Allen bounced back to work a 1-2-3 second inning and struck out six of the next seven batters he faced to get through the fourth with nine strikeouts as the RiversDogs cut the Intimidators lead to 2-1.

Bill Rice and Andrew Douglas opened the fifth with back-to-back doubles to get a run back. Charleston's Reymond Nunez committed a two- error play at first base, allowing Douglas to cross the plate for a 5-1 lead. Rice finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Allen (3-6) took the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits with nine strikeouts and one walk -- his first in his last five starts.

Kannapolis relievers Jason Van Skike and Max Peterson each allowed a run in an inning of relief; Peterson earned the save (2), striking out two batters in the ninth.

The Intimidators continue this series against Charleston on Saturday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium with post-game fireworks presented by CMC- NorthEast. RHP Chris Devenski (5-5, 4.84) takes the ball against RiverDogs starter RHP Bryan Mitchell (6-7, 5.13).
