POWER REPLAY: West Virginia rallied for an 8-6 win at Augusta on Saturday evening. The teams traded runs over the first three innings, but the GreenJackets scored three times in the fourth and knocked Power starter Robby Rowland from the game. West Virginia responded with a five-run fifth inning. The Power used five base hits and a walk to regain the lead for good, keyed by a two out, two-run double from Ashley Ponce. Rinku Singh, Robbie Kilcrease, and Nathan Kilcrease combined to shutout Augusta over the final five and a third to seal the win. Jose Osuna hit his ninth home run in the victory. Singh notched the win, while the latter Kilcrease gained his fifth save.
#WINNING: West Virginia had seven road wins during the entire first half of the 2012 season (7-29). The Power have already won eight times in 14 chances on the road in the second half and have a three game winning streak entering play tonight, matching their longest stretch of consecutive road wins this season (5/02-2 through 5/04 at Asheville).
WHITEWASHED: Power pitchers combined for their first shutout of the 2012 season in Friday's nightcap. The 2011 squad worked a league-best 13 shutouts. This edition needed 92 games to notch its' first.
OFF TO A GOOD START(ER): In the first half of the 2012 season, Power starting pitchers collected nine of the club's 23 wins. West Virginia's starting pitchers have already earned nine victories in the second half thanks in part to both starters gaining wins in Friday's twinbill at Rome.
ERA LEADER... FOR NOW: Matt Benedict's 3.42 ERA will remain as the clubs best until after Monday's game at Augusta. At that point, the right-hander's 76.1 innings pitched will no longer qualify him among the leaders (0.8 IP per team game). Benedict was promoted to Bradenton during the SAL All-Star break.
FOUR! West Virginia and Augusta continue their only series of the season tonight at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The Power trail 23-18 in the all-time series and have gone 11-18 on the road in the series since 2005.
K KINGS: Nick Kingham leads the team with 73 strikeouts over 78.2 innings pitched. Zack Von Rosenberg led the Power in 2011 with 114 over 125.2 innings, Kyle McPherson had 124 in 117.2 innings in 2010, and Gabriel Alvarado had 96 over 114.0 innings in 2009. Should Kingham stay in the rotation on schedule every fifth day, he is on pace to make 10 more starts. That puts the right-hander on pace to match Von Rosenberg's strikeout total from last season, which was third most in team history.
PROMO CHECK- JULY 19: West Virginia will host PurplePower Night on July 19. The team will wear purple jerseys that will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting pancreatic cancer research.
POWER POINTS: West Virginia has now hit 65 home runs through 93 games this season. The 2011 club hit 63 over 138 games... A win in any of the next three games will give the Power their first winning road trip this season regardless of length... Jose Osuna had three runs batted in yesterday, marking the first time this season the infielder drove in more than two runs in any game this year... Eric Avila, Jose Osuna, and Ashley Ponce all have active five game hitting streaks entering their next contests.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh edged 6-4 Milwaukee. The Pirates used two home runs to back Kevin Correia in his sixth victory of the season... Indianapolis beat Columbus 12-9. Starling Marta hit his tenth home run of the year in the win... Altoona lost 4-3 at Akron... Bradenton lost both games of a doubleheader against Brevard County... State College was doubled up 6-3 by Brooklyn.
ON THE AIR: All 140 West Virginia Power games can be heard on ESPN 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, WV, across the state on the Power Radio Network, and online at milb.com. Adam Marco will call the action for each of the 70 home games this season, while the home team will provide coverage while the Power are on the road.
