Extra Innings Give Braves 6-5 Win

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Asheville Tourists 6-5 in eleven innings Sunday evening at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd 1,826.

Asheville jumped on the scoreboard with single runs in the first and second innings for the 2-0 lead. They made it a 5-0 lead in the fifth with three runs highlighted by an RBI double from Ryan Casteel, and a two run double by Brian Humphries. It became a 5-1 game in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI base hit from Robby Hefflinger. Rome struck again in the eighth win a run coming from a wild pitch by Asheville pitcher Kenneth Roberts for the 5-2 score. Three big runs in the bottom of the ninth tied the game 5-5 on a run scoring double by Chase Anselment, and RBI singles by Brandon Drury and Elmer Reyes.

After two outs in the bottom of the eleventh inning, Reyes and Tony Mueller singled. On an 0-2 pitch, Ross Heffley drilled the ball in the left-center field gap to score Reyes for the 6-5 victory.Ronan Pacheco (1-0) gets the win for Rome while Asheville's Nelson Gonzalez (3-2) is the loser.
