Each team scored once more in the game and West Virginia could not complete the rally. Dodson took the loss and fell to 1-4 this season.
MEET FRANCISCO APONTE: The Pittsburgh Pirates have added infielder Francisco Aponte to the West Virginia roster and sent Jodaneli Carvajal to Extended Spring. Aponte played for the GCL Pirates last season, batting .262 over 28 games, after having spent his first three professional seasons in the VSL with Chivacoa. Carvajal was batting .243 over 29 games played with one home run and nine runs batted in for the Power this season.
KINGHAM VS THE DRIVE: Nick Kingham will face Greenville for the second time this season when he takes the mound tonight. The Nevada native tossed four innings of three hit, one run ball during a start on April 12, the home opener at Appalachian Power Park.
RIGHT-HANDED RELIEF: Pittsburgh added two arms to the Power roster on Friday. Clario Perez and Robby Rowland were sent to West Virginia's roster from extended spring. Perez was signed as a non-drafted free agent from in 2009 and has not pitched above the Dominican Summer League during his professional career. Rowland was acquired by Pittsburgh on March 31, 2012, in exchange for Brett Lorin (a Rule Five draft choice in 2011 that the Diamondbacks wanted to keep despite a lack of roster space). Rowland was a third round draft choice in 2010 out of Cloverdale High School in California and has not pitched above the Pioneer League.
11 GAMES IN A ROW: Gregory Polanco's hitting streak has reached eleven straight with a 2-5 showing last night. The Power outfielder is batting .348 during this streak with 16 hits in 46 at bats with two home runs and four runs batted in. It is the longest current streak by any player on the roster and has surpassed Dan Gamache's late April to early May streak as the second longest this season by a Power player. Alen Hanson's 16-game April streak still remains as the longest in the league so far this season.
DRIVE TIME: West Virginia and Greenville meet for their second series this season after having not played each other since early 2010. West Virginia swept a four game series at Appalachian Power Park during the Power's opening homestand of the season in April. Greenville won six times in eight games during the 2010 season to tie the all-time series at 18 wins apiece, though West Virginia now holds a 22-20 edge with three games left this season between the teams. The Power are 9-13 since 2005 at Fluor Field.
