Lexington Legends News Release
The Lexington Legends came from behind with two runs in the fifth inning and went on to a 7-5 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators Saturday night in Kannapolis.
The Legends took the lead with two runs in the top of the second inning. With one out, Brandon Meredith walked and moved to second on a single by Mike Kvasnicka. After a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, Chris Epps singled to score Meredith, and Chan Jong Moon's sacrifice fly brought Kvasnicka home with the second run.
Kannapolis came back to take the lead in the third. A single by Dusty Harvard and a double by Ross Wilson put runners at second and third with no outs. Joe DePinto's double scored both Harvard and Wilson to tie the game at 2-2. De Pinto moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a ground out by Kevan Smith to give Kannapolis a 3-2 lead.
The Legends took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth inning. Chan Jong Moon reached first on an infield hit and moved to third on a double by Delino DeShields Jr. After Jordan Scott was called out on strikes, Zach Johnson doubled, scoring Moon and DeShields to put the Legends in front 4-3. Johnson leads the South Atlantic League with 44 runs batted in.
The Legends added three runs in the sixth inning. Meredith led off with a single. After Kvasnicka grounded into a force play and Epps flied out, Kvasnicka stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Martin Medina. Moon singled to score Kvasnicka, and after DeShields was hit by a pitch, Scott doubled both runners home to give the Legends a 7-3 advantage.
Kannapolis scored a run in the seventh on Harvard's sacrifice fly and another in the eighth when Mark Haddow reached first on an error by Moon and came around to score on three passed balls charged to Kvasnicka.
Mike Foltynewicz (5-1) pitched the first six innings and got the win. Murilo Gouvea worked the seventh and Jason Chowning pitched the final two innings and picked up his seventh save.
Kannapolis starter Kevin Vance (2-2) was the losing pitcher.
The win moved the Legends, now 21-20, over the .500 mark for the first time this season. The Legends have taken two of the first three games in the series, which concludes Sunday. Game time is 5:05 p.m.
