Asheville Tourists News Release

The offense was apparent at McCormick Field Saturday night and the Tourists had just enough in both games to earn a double-header sweep in front of the home fans. Asheville took game one 8-7 and won game two 10-6.

In the first contest, Hickory scored two runs in the top of the first inning when Drew Robinson belted a two-run homer. Asheville answered with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the frame. Will Lamb walked the first three Tourists hitters of the game to load the bases and Will Swanner cleared them with his second Grand Slam of the season.

The Tourists plated one in the third and three more in the fourth. David Kandilas hit a two-run single and Harold Riggins contributed with an RBI single. Asheville led 8-3 but the Crawdads made it close in the sixth. Hickory scored four runs, two of which came on a throwing error, but the Tourists held on for the one run win.

In game two, the offense picked up immediately. Hickory jumped out of the gate with three runs in the first, but once again Asheville responded; this time with six. Asheville batted around in their half of the first and never looked back. Sam Mende and Delta Cleary Jr. hit Home Runs and the Tourists had major contributions from several players.

Trevor Strory had a double and a triple while Riggins totaled three hits in the game. Tyler Massey came through with a pair of doubles in the 10-6 win as well.

Chris Jensen (4-1, 4.50) and Taylor Reid (1-0, 8.59) were the winning pitchers for Asheville. The T's have now won three in a row and are looking to sweep the Crawdads in the series finale Sunday afternoon.
