RALLY RAVE RULES NIGHT: West Virginia rallied from an 8-1 deficit from a 10-9 ten inning win over Lexington. The Power trailed by seven after four innings, but plated four in the sixth, three in the eighth, and one in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game. In the tenth, West Virginia loaded the bases with no one out and without the benefit of a base hit. Jesus Brito brought in the winning run on a sacrifice fly.
POWER V LEGENDS: West Virginia has played Lexington more than any other team dating back to the 2005 season. The Power lead the all-time series 57-53, but trail 26-29 at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia does, however, have the edge at Applebee's Park in Lexington, winning 31 of 55 games. The 2009 series was split at six wins and six losses .
FREE RIDE: West Virginia batters walked 11 times on Thursday night, surpassing their season-high from any one game. The previous season-high was set on Wednesday when Power players walked nine times in the series finale win at Hagerstown. One of the walks Thursday was intentional; the very last one that loaded the bases with no one out in the tenth, and eight of the nine players in the lineup walked at least once.
KELLY ON THE SPOT: Ryan Kelly made a spot start for the Power on Thursday. The right-hander was the 13th starting pitcher used this season by West Virginia after the club utilized 15 different starters in 2009.
WALK THIS WAY: Evan Chambers has walked 67 times this year to lead the South Atlantic League. Chambers ranks third across all of Minor League Baseball, trailing only Kila Ki'aihue of Omaha (75) and Conner Crumbliss of Kane County (73). Chambers on-base percentage from the leadoff spot is .411, while his overall OBP is .399, fifth best in the league. The Lakeland, Florida native has walked in 51 of the 79 games he has played in this season (65%).
WELCOME BACK: Pittsburgh promoted Brett Lorin to the Power roster on Wednesday to fill the vacant spot. Lorin was acquired by the Pirates last July in the deal that sent Jack Wilson and Ian Snell to the Seattle Mariners. The right-hander spent the final few weeks of the 2009 season with the Power, going 3-1 with a 1.57 earned run average. He began this season with the GCL Pirates, going 0-0 with a 1.29 ERA.
POWER POINTS: Rogelio Noris has the fourth best home run to at bat ratio in the SAL with one home run ever 21 at bats, while Aaron Baker is fifth at one in every 22.42 at bats. Justin Bass of Greensboro leads the league in long balls and has the best ratio (1/16.33 AB)... Power batters reached on five doubles Thursday, setting a new single game high in two-base hits... West Virginia left 13 men on base Thursday, matching their single game high this year. The Power also left 13 on in an 8-1 win at Kannapolis on April 26.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh was shutout by Houston 2-0... Indianapolis slipped by Columbus 3-2 in a rain-shortened game... Altoona lost 4-3 at Binghamton... Bradenton lost 2-1 at home against Charlotte... State College dropped a 6-2 final at Brooklyn.
