
Power Finishes Disastrous Homestand with 5-2 Loss

(Charleston, WV - June 15, 2015) - The West Virginia Power lost to the Augusta GreenJackets 5-2 on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park. With the loss, the Power lose three of four games to the 'Jackets and finish the homestand with a 1-6 record.
Power starter Stephen Tarpley struggled through his first three innings by allowing five runs. The lefty gave up a pair of runs in the first on an RBI single and a wild pitch. In the second, a Johneshwy Fargas sacrifice fly made it 3-0 and Cristian Paulino laid down a squeeze bunt to make it 4-0. Will Callaway made it 5-0 in the third with an RBI single.
West Virginia rallied in the seventh inning to make it a three-run game. With the bases loaded and two outs, Elvis Escobar hit a ball to the third baseman Jonah Arenado who fired a ball into the seats up the first base line, allowing Jerrick Suiter and Tito Polo to score.
Tarpley (3-2) suffered the loss after surrendering ten hits over 5.2 innings while walking two and striking out three while GreenJackets starter Sam Coonrod (4-1) earned the victory with an unearned run surrendered over 6.1 innings. Carlos Alvarado worked the ninth to register his tenth save of the season.
West Virginia (35-29) lost three of the four games against Augusta (31-32) and will begin a series with the Charleston RiverDogs, Class A affiliate of the New York Yankees, in South Carolina. The Power will send RHP Alex McRae (3-4, 4.26) to the hill in the first game of the series and McRae will be opposed by LHP Rony Bautista (3-1, 2.72). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Ballpark while pregame on Charleston's ESPN Radio 104.5 FM and 1490, the Power website, and the TuneIn radio app is slated for 6:45 p.m.
Friday night's game will be another night of Friday Night Fireworks plus a black bear giveaway to the first 1,000 fans thanks to MVB Bank. Also highlighting the final homestand of the first half will be a New River Gorge replica giveaway to the first 1,000 fans thanks to Appalachian Power.
