Greenville, SC - In the final home game of the first half, the Greenville Drive put together a terrific all-around performance in a 9-3 victory over the Rome Braves on Monday night at Fluor Field. With the win, the Drive are back alone in first place in the Southern Division with six games remaining in the half.
With the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth, Mauricio Dubon used his speed to put the Drive (35-29) ahead for good, as he scored all the way from second when Carlos Salazar (1-4) uncorked a wild pitch.
A four-run seventh inning allowed the Drive to pull away, as Yoan Moncada smacked a three-run double to the right center gap to extend the lead to 7-3, and a Michael Chavis single to center tacked on another run in the frame.
Dedgar Jimenez (4-3) picked up the victory for the Drive, and Jamie Callahan and Ryan Harris shut out the Braves over the final four innings, with Callahan striking out five over his three innings of work.
The Drive took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second against Rome starter Chad Sobotka after a wild pitch and an RBI single by Joseph Monge.
Rome took a 3-2 lead in the fourth after Matt Tellor hit an RBI single and Justin Black tagged a two-run triple deep to right-center.
Greenville answered back in the bottom half when Moncada was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and came home on Francisco Tellez's double off the center-field wall.
Moncada filled up the box score, going 1-2 at the plate with three runs, three RBI and two stolen bases. Dubon, Mike Meyers and Derek Miller added two hits apiece. Black, Jordan Edgerton and Erison Mendez all collected two hits for Rome.
The Drive finish the first half on the road, beginning with a three-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers, affiliate of the Miami Marlins. First pitch on Tuesday night in Greensboro is at 7:00 PM. LH Jalen Beeks (6-2, 3.25) starts the opener for the Drive, and the Grasshoppers will counter with RH Luis Castillo (2-2, 3.68).
