Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
SALISBURY, Md. (June 15, 2015) - The Shorebirds erupted for six runs in the fifth inning en route to Delmarva's 13-5 win, avoiding an Intimidators sweep on Monday at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Kannapolis (32-32) committed four errors as it's season-long four-game winning streak came to an end.
Intimidators first baseman Alexander Simon came a triple shy of the cycle, going 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. He provided the game's first tally with a solo home run (1) to lead off the top of the second inning, the 10th home run of his career. Needing a triple to complete the cycle in the top of the eighth, he doubled to the gap in right-center field, driving in two runs.
Spencer Adams retired the first 10 batters he faced before giving up a one-out single to Delmarva's Steve Wilkerson in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Delmarva took advantage of a pair of Kannapolis errors while pounding out five hits to built a 6-1 lead, chasing Adams from the game. Phildrick Llewellyn hit a two-run go-ahead double that sparked the Shorebirds' rally. Adams (2-4) finished after 4 and 2/3 innings of work, allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk while taking the loss.
Shorebirds starter Lucas Long (2-1), a college teammate of Intimidators outfielder Louie Lechich at the University of San Diego, earned the win. Long worked 6.0 innings, allowing a run on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Delmarva added four runs in the bottom of the seventh off reliever Brad Salgado, highlighted by a Jared Breen 3-run double. Breen finished 2-for-4 with a game-high four RBI to pace the Shorebirds offense.
The Intimidators returns home Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System on Tuesday, June 16, for a three-game series against Hagerstown. The home stand will open with a special appearance by BK Racing's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Drivers J.J. Yeley and Jeb Burton featuring special BK Racing giveaways to the first 100 fans. Tuesday's game is also an Arby's Two-for-Tuesday featuring 2-for-1 tickets with any Arby's proof-of-purchase.
