
BlueClaws, Suns Split Monday Double-Header

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The BlueClaws and Hagerstown Suns split a double-header on Monday, with Lakewood winning the opener 5-1 and Hagerstown taking the night-cap 4-3.
Lakewood finished their seven-game road trip by taking three of four in Hagerstown and 5-2 overall. The first-game BlueClaws win marked a new season high with four straight wins. Rhys Hoskins went 2-3 with 2 RBIs for the BlueClaws in the win.
Lakewood and Hagerstown were tied at 1 going to the sixth, but the BlueClaws took the lead on a 2-run triple by Herlis Rodriguez. They added two more in the seventh inning, one on an RBI triple by Gustavo Martinez and another on an RBI single by Hoskins.
Ricardo Pinto improved to 6-2, allowing one run over six innings, to earn the win. Matt Hockenbery threw a scoreless seventh inning.
In game two, Herlis Rodriguez homered in the first inning to put the BlueClaws up 1-0, his fifth home run of the year and third on the road trip. After Hagerstown tied the game in the first, the Suns took the lead on a two-run single by Cody Dent off Josh Taylor in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Taylor, who fell to 3-5, gave up four runs, three earned, over five innings.
Hagerstown starter Mario Sanchez, who gave up two runs over five innings, improved to 3-2 with the win. Justin Amlung gave up one run over two innings to earn his third save of the year.
After the double-header, the BlueClaws are 32-29 on the year, while the Suns improve to 31-32.
Malquin Canelo and Herlis Rodriguez both had hits in both ends of the double-header for Lakewood and both have now hit safely in eight straight.
Lakewood heads home to open a four-game, three-day series with Delmarva. The teams will play a double-header Tuesday in Lakewood that starts at 5:05 pm. RHP Tyler Viza (4-1) starts the opener for Lakewood against LHP Brian Gonzalez (3-4). Neither team has announced a game two starter.
