Greensboro, NC (June 26, 2009) - The West Virginia Power scored four times in the first inning of Friday night's game and used the big frame to win their third game in a row with an 8-3 victory over the Greensboro Grasshoppers at NewBridge Bank Park.

The scoring in the first inning started with a solo homer from Quincy Latimore, his fifth of the season. Erik Huber singled and Calvin Anderson walked before Bobby Spain ripped a single into center field which scored Huber, and an error committed by center fielder Kevin Mattison allowed Anderson to score as well. Power newcomer Starling Marte brought Spain home on a double to complete the inning. Robbie Grossman made it 5-0 when he hit a solo homerun off Brad Hand in the second inning. It was his third of the year.

Erik Huber reached on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning which allowed Danny Bomback to score and Adenson Chourio doubled in both Spain and Marte on a two-out double in the top of the fifth inning. The Grasshoppers used the long ball to plate all of their runs in the sixth inning. Kevin Mattison hit a solo shot and Jeremy Synan hit a two-run bomb.

Ryan Kelly (2-2) allowed three runs on three hits with four strikeouts in three innings of relief to score the victory. Hand (3-8) was roughed up over four innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits and was tagged with the loss. Brian Leach tossed four scoreless innings of two-hit ball, but had to be taken out of the game after a one hour and 16-minute rain delay.

West Virginia improved to 29-43 overall, and 2-0 in the second half after the win, while the Grasshoppers fell to 37-35 overall and 0-2 in the second half after the loss. Four Power players turned in multi-hit games, including Starling Marte who made a splash in his Power debut with a 3-for-4 performance. Bobby Spain delivered a pair of singles and has six hits in the series while Adenson Chourio and Quincy Latimore both had two hits a piece as well. Every Power batter reached base in the contest, including Robbie Grossman who has now reached in 18 straight games.

West Virginia will continue the four game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers at NewBridge Bank Park on Saturday night. The Power will start right hander Gabriel Alvarado (3-6, 5.31) and the Grasshoppers will counter with left hander Kyle Kaminska (5-4, 3.75). The first pitch will be delivered at 7:05 PM.
