
Legends, Hot Rods Split Two

The Lexington Legends split a doubleheader with the Bowling Green Hot Rods Friday night at Applebee's Park, winning the first game 4-2 and losing the second 9-2.
In the first game, the Legends took the lead with three runs in the third inning. After Eric Suttle and Jay Austin walked, Albert Cartwright singled to drive in the game's first run. Austin went to third on Cartwright's hit and scored on a wild pitch as Cartwright advanced to second. Brian Pellegrini's infield single moved Cartwright to third, from where he scored on a base hit by Ebert Rosario.
The Hot Rods came back with a run in the fourth on a successful double steal as Tim Beckham scored after Jake Jefferies had stolen second. Bowling Green added another run in the fifth on a double by Mike McCormick, a single by Jason Tweedy and a sacrifice fly by Robi Estrada.
The Legends increased their lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning when Pellegrini singled, went to second on a wild pickoff throw by pitcher Frank De Los Santos, and scored on a single by Federico Hernandez.
The Hot Rods had two on with one out in the seventh inning, but reliever Patrick Urckfitz earned his eighth save by getting Jason Tweedy to hit into a double play.
Starter Kyle Greenwalt (5-7) pitched five innings to get the win. De Los Santos (3-5) was the losing pitcher.
The Hot Rods took charge of the second game in the third inning. Anthony Scelfo bunted for a base hit, and Tim Beckham was hit by a pitch. Jake Jefferies doubled to left center, scoring Scelfo and sending Beckham to third. After Kyeong Kang walked to load the bases, Isaias Velasquez was hit by a pitch, scoring a second run. A sacrifice fly by John Mollicone gave Bowling Green a 3-0 lead.
After Brian Pellegrini hit his 12th home run of the year for the Legends in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 3-1, the Hot Rods broke it open with four runs in a fifth inning that included two wild pitches, two throwing errors and a two-run single by Scelfo
Bowling Green starter Nick Barnese (2-1) allowed one run in five innings to get the win. Jordan Lyles (4-7) was the losing pitcher.
The Legends and Hot Rods will play Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at Applebee's Park. Saturday is Military Appreciation Night. Fireworks will follow the game.
