Lexington Legends News Release
The Lexington Legends will hold Military Appreciation Night Saturday, June 27. The Marine Corps' Marine For Life program and the Marine Corps' Wounded Warrior Regiment will serve as hosts.
The event will feature a Marine Corps color guard and displays. Displays will include a pull-up challenge; a Hummer H3 vehicle; and tables staffed by Marines representing Marine Corps recruiting and Marine for Life, who will be available to answer questions. A Marine will throw out the first pitch at the game, which will match the Legends against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
Legends players will wear special camouflage jerseys which will be auctioned after the game. Proceeds will go to the Eternal Valor Foundation.
"It is my greatest honor of the 2009 season to have the first Marine For Life Night in professional baseball's history," said Legends general manager Andy Shea. "These men and woman put their lives on the line for us, and we're very fortunate that we can take a game to show our appreciation."
About 27,000 Marines leave the Marine Corps each year and return to cities and towns throughout America, according to information provided by the Marines. Many return to Kentucky following their Marine Corps service. The Marine Corps' Marine For Life program assists Marines who leave active duty and return to the civilian community. Employers and mentors in the Lexington and Louisville areas can help these Marine veterans by becoming a part of the Marine For Life program. The Marine for Life Web site is at www.M4L.USMC.MIL.
The Marine Corps' Wounded Warrior Regiment also helps Marines and Marine
veterans during and after their active-duty service. The Wounded Warrior
Regiment provides and facilitates assistance to wounded, ill and injured
Marines, sailors and their families throughout the recovery process. More
