
Power drop double dip

Charleston, WV - The Greenville Drive used a number of big innings on Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park to take both ends of a double header, taking game one 6-3 and winning 8-6 in game two.
In game one, West Virginia took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Calvin Anderson and Quincy Latimore. The Drive answered with six runs on six hits in the next half inning. Alex Hassan drove in the first run on a base hit and Oscar Tejada's sacrifice fly scored Chris McGuiness. Shannon Wilkerson singled in the next two runs and scored on Ryan Dent's double. Dent plated the final run of the inning after Ty Weeden reached on a fielder's choice. Starling Marte's triple in the seventh inning plated Bobby Spain for the final run of the contest.
The Drive scored three times in the third inning of game two to take an early lead. Ryan Lavarnway singled in the first run and Will Middlebrooks doubled in the next two. Quincy Latimore tied the game in the bottom of the third with a three-run shot, his 11th of the season. Greenville answered quickly with a three-run fourth inning. Alex Hassan doubled in the first run and Jeremy Hazelbaker followed with a two-run homer. Wilkerson belted a two-run shot in the fifth inning to plate Greenville's final two-runs. Bobby Spain smacked an RBI single in the sixth inning and Calvin Anderson doubled in the final two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
In game one, Brock Huntzinger (8-8) allowed a pair of runs on five hits and fanned eight in five innings to secure the victory. Brian Leach (5-3) allowed six runs on six hits over an inning and a third and was tagged with the loss. In game two, Leandadro Marin (3-2) allowed just a run on two hits over two and two-thirds to snag the victory. Gabriel Alvarado (6-10) took the loss after allowing eight runs on six hits over five innings.
West Virginia fell to 56-65 overall, and 29-22 in the second half after the losses, while the Drive improved to 65-56 overall and 27-27 in the second half after the victories. Calvin Anderson and Starling Marte paced the Power with three hits a piece in the double dip. Anderson extended his hitting streak to six games and Marte has now reached safely in nine straight games.
West Virginia will continue the four game series with the Greenville Drive at Appalachian Power Park on Sunday night. The Power will start right hander Aaron Pribanic (1-1, 3.21) and the Greenville Drive will counter with right hander Caleb Clay (4-5, 3.87). The first pitch will be delivered at 5:05 PM.
