Gnats Bite the Braves

Rome, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats defeated the Rome Braves 7-4 on a cool August Saturday night in front of 4,001 fans at State Mutual Stadium.

As it turned out, the game was decided in the second inning as Savannah sent ten men to the plate resulting in six runs. Four batters would have RBI hits in the inning including Nick Girraputo, Wilmer Flores, and Josh Satin who had RBI singles. Joey August added a two run double and Flores scored on a fielding error to give Savannah a 6-0 advantage.

In the top of the third the Sand Gnats would add another run as Raul Reyes drew a walk and later came around to score when August grounded out into a double play making the score 7-0 Gnats. Rome would never catch up.

The Braves scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth on a Luis Sumoza three run double to right. They added another in the sixth when Matt Kennelly scored on a wild pitch. Savannah's bull pen would hold on for the 7-4 win.

Eric Beaulac (7-7) gets the win for Savannah and Randall Delgado (4-9) takes the loss for the Braves with Rhiner Cruz (21) earning the save.
