June 20, 2010 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

The West Virginia Power fell 7-4 to the Hagerstown Suns Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Suns plated five early runs and the Power could not overcome the deficit in their second loss in as many days.

Hagerstown scored three runs in the first and two in the second against Brandon Holden. One night after collecting 13 runs on 23 hits, the Suns needed eight hits over the first two frames to tally five scores.

The Power did get one run back in the home half of the first inning. Evan Chambers walked, advanced to third on a base hit by David Rubinstein, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Rogelio Noris.

The Suns added a run in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 6-1, but West Virginia scored three in the seventh to cut score down to 6-4. Kyle Morgan, Jesus Brito, and Jose Hernandez reached on consecutive singles to load the bases. Pat Irvine reached on a fielder's choice and drive in his first run of the season. Brito scored when Bengie Gonzalez reached on an error and Irvine cross home on a groundout by Evan Chambers.

Hagerstown added a run in the eighth, and squelched a West Virginia rally in the bottom of the ninth. Suns closer Dean Weaver allowed a double and walked a pair to load the bases, but proceeded to induce Elevys Gonzalez to ground out to end the game.

Holden (1-6) took the loss after surrendering six runs on 14 hits, while Josh Smoker (1-7) garnered his first win of the year with five innings of two-hit ball. Morgan and Hernandez had two hits each for the Power. Six different Suns had multi-hit games, led by Francisco Soriano's four-hit night.

The Power and Suns close the first half of the regular season Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. Jhonathan Ramos will pitch against Paul Applebee for West Virginia and Hagerstown, respectively.
