Lexington Legends News Release

A three-run homer by Miguel Arrendell and three RBI by Rene Garcia led the Lexington Legends to a 6-3 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds Sunday afternoon in the final game of a four-game series in Salisbury, Maryland.

Levi Carolus got the Shorebirds out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo homer, his first home run of the year.

With two outs in the top of the fourth, Jake Goebbert singled and Kody Hinze reached on an error. Arrendell followed with a drive over the wall in right field, his second homer of the year, to give the Legends a 3-1 lead.

Delmarva tied it in the fifth on a two-run double by Tyler Stampone.

The Legends regained the lead in the sixth when Garcia delivered a two-out single to score Arrendell, who had walked and moved to second on a walk to Jiovanni Mier.

The Legends added two more runs in the eighth. With two outs, Arrendell bunted for a hit, and Mier followed with a double that sent Arrendell to third. Garcia's single scored both runners, giving the Legends the final margin of 6-3.

Robby Donovan (7-4) got the win after working the first five innings. Kirk Clark pitched a scoreless ninth to earn a league-leading 13th save. Reliever Nick Haughian (4-2) took the loss.

The Legends finished the first half of the season at 35-35, seven games out of first place in the South Atlantic League Southern Division. After the All-Star break, Lexington opens the second half of the season at home against the Rome Braves Thursday night at Applebee's Park. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
