Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (March 2, 2014) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers fell to the Utica Comets Sunday evening by a final score of 2-1. Alan Quine scored in the second period for the Sound Tigers lone goal, but Comets goals in the first and third were the difference in the contest. Kevin Poulin 27 saves on the night in net for the Sound Tigers.
The Comets needed just 17 seconds to get on the board as Niklas Jensen picked up his 15th goal of the season. Matt Donovan took the initial rush for the Sound Tigers, but when it shot was stopped, it created a two-on-one for the Comets the other way. Jensen skated in on the left wing and fired a wrist shot past Poulin for the opening goal of the game.
The Sound Tigers did not tie the score until early in the second period, when Quine cashed in on his sixth of the year. Joey Martin got the puck back to the point for Marc Cantin, who ripped a shot from the right side. Quine went to the net with this stick on the ice and redirected the shot past Joacim Eriksson for the goal.
The teams went into the dressing room with the score tied at one after 40 minutes. Andrew Clark was called for tripping less than two minutes into the third, which gave Utica a power-play opportunity. The Comets set up in the Sound Tigers zone, and Pascal Pelletier had the puck in the right-wing circle. He sent it cross-ice to Benn Ferriero, who somehow found space between the near post and Poulin and gave Utica the lead.
The Sound Tigers trailed with less than two minutes to play and pulled Poulin in favor of the extra attacker. That turned into a 6-on-4 advantage with 20 seconds to play after Utica was called for interference, but the Sound Tigers were unable to convert.
The Sound Tigers travel to St. John's, Newfoundland next week for games Friday and Saturday against the IceCaps.
