Potomac Nationals Game Notes at Frederick Keys

July 20, 2015 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Potomac Nationals News Release

The Potomac Nationals look to turn around a five-game losing streak which has tied their season-long slide tonight in Frederick, MD on Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium in series Game Two vs. the Frederick Keys (Baltimore Orioles).

After being one-hit by the combination of Frederick LHP Ariel Miranda (announced today as the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Week), LHP Matt Taylor, and LHP Cody Wheeler last evening in the opener, Potomac sends LHP Matt Purke (0-0, 0.00) to the hill for his second start in the circuit since the 2013 season.

Purke has no statistics for the Nationals because his first outing agaisnt the Winston-Salem Dash (Chicago White Sox) was suspended due to torrential thunderstorms in Winston-Salem, NC at BB&T Ballpark on July 13th.

The Black and Orange will throw LHP Luis Gonzalez (5-7, 7.32) against the Red, White, and Blue.

Gonzalez faced Potomac on May 8th at Pfitzner Stadium and earned a win. Gonzalez went 5.0 innings and surrendered four earned runs on nine hits including one home run while walking three, fanning five, and balking once.

Washington Nationals IF Anthony Rendon joins the P-Nats for his second rehabilitation stint in three days while on the mend from a left quadriceps strain this evening at "The Grove." On July 18th, Rendon went 2-for-2 with a double and an infield single in three innings of action against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs).

Rendon will wear jersey #12 tonight for the Carolina League Nats.

P-Nats Game Notes for tonight's edition of the "Battle of the Beltway" on our Carolina League stage are attached.

Temperatures from the "Gateway to Western Maryland" will exceed 95 degrees Fahrenheit at game time.
