DASH SWEEP DE FACTO DOUBLEHEADER
Winston-Salem rallied in a suspended game from last month (6-4) before recording a shutout in Sunday's seven-inning finale (3-0 F/7) against Lynchburg. Trailing 3-2 entering the eighth inning in the suspended contest, the Dash rallied for four on home runs from Adam Engel (solo) and Keon Barnum (three-run). Spencer Adams scattered three hits in six shutout innings in the nightcap, during which the Dash plated a single run in the third, fourth and fifth. In the 15 innings logged on Sunday, the Dash permitted just one run and used only four pitchers (two per game).
HOMER HAPPY
For the second time all season, Winston-Salem went deep more than twice in a single game when the Dash clubbed three long balls in the suspended game. Only a four-homer effort on May 17 trumps this performance. All three of those home runs came after play was resumed at BB&T Ballpark. However, because the contest began in Lynchburg on June 27, they will be recorded as road homers. In addition to the aforementioned Engel and Barnum bombs, Cleuluis Rondon went deep in the second. The Dash still sit in last in the CL with 31 home runs.
ONE ENDS, ANOTHER CONTINUES
Infielder Trey Michalczewski saw his season-long 11-game hit streak end thanks to an 0-for-1 showing during Sunday's seven-inning finale. Michalczewski also posted a walk and a sacrifice fly in his three plate appearances. During this surge, which started on July 6, Michalczewski hit .405 (17-for-42). He did drive home a run, something he has accomplished in eight of his last nine games. Michalczewski is third in the Carolina League with 54 RBIs.
TWO OF THE LEAGUE'S TOP THREE
Michalczewski has had many RBI chances thanks to the top two men in the Dash's lineup. Two-hole hitter Jake Peter is second in the CL with 95 hits, while leadoff man Adam Engel is tied for third with 91. Both Engel (58, T-3rd) and Peter (51, 6th) are in the top 10 in runs, too.
DOMINANT DEBUT
Right-hander Spencer Adams, the third-best prospect in the White Sox system according to MLB.com, twirled the longest scoreless outing of his Minor League career on Sunday. In fact, his six-inning showing marked only the second time in his 26 appearances that Adams did not give up a run (5.0 IP, 0 R on May 21 vs. Hickory, while with Low-A Kannapolis). Adams faced five more than the minimum and only allowed two Hillcats to reach scoring position.
ADAMS, JONES DEPART
Despite the sterling start, Adams was only with the Dash for the spot start opportunity. He returned to Low-A Kannapolis, the White Sox announced Monday. Also, the Sox shipped right-hander Nate Jones to Triple-A Charlotte to continue his rehabilitation assignment following Tommy John surgery last July. With Winston, Jones worked four innings over four outings, during which he gave up one run on three hits. One of those performances are not yet included in his official stats, as the game was suspended (July 13 vs. Potomac; to be resumed August 11).
FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER
Winston-Salem was in last place in the Southern Division for the final 50 days of the season's first half. However, the Dash have enjoyed at least a share of first place for the first 25 days of half two. In the previous five halves (2013 first half to 2015 first half), Winston-Salem was in first for a combined 33 days. This current first-place streak is the Dash's longest since being in the top spot for the final 35 days of the second half in 2012.
DASH DOTS
Righty Brandon Brennan simply resumed his start from June 27 at Lynchburg and ended up falling one out shy of matching a career-high in innings pitched (7.2)...He gave up four runs on 10 hits, though only one run on four hits came after the resumption on Sunday...Winston has converted 13 of its last 14 save opportunities after blowing seven of its first 15 chances...The Dash are still last in the CL in saves with 21.
