New York Red Bulls News Release
New York Red Bulls (6-8-2, 20 pts) fell short to Inter Miami (4-10-2, 14 pts), 2-1 on Wednesday at Red Bull Arena.
New York dropped three points for the first time this season when scoring the match's first goal. The Red Bulls are 5-1-2 when scoring the game's first goal.
Bronx native Omir Fernandez grabbed the match's first goal in the 53rd minute with a tap in following a pass across the face of the net from Jared Stroud.
However, Inter Miami equalized two minutes later and found the game winner from a free kick by Gonzalo Higuain in the 84th minute.
Fernandez tallied his second goal in his fifth start of 2020. The Bronx midfielder has four career MLS regular-season goals in eight starts.
Stroud recorded his first career MLS point with a primary assist on Fernandez's goal in the 53rd minute.
Sean Nealis tallied his second career MLS assist.
Stroud and Nealis became New York's 10th and 11th different players to tally an assist this season.
Ghanaian forward Samuel Tetteh earned his first career MLS regular-season start, tallying 58 minutes in the match.
New York is 29-19-11 all-time in the month of October. The Red Bulls have scored 95 goals and allowed 76 in the 10th month of the year.
The Red Bulls hit the road for three of the next four games, beginning with back-to-back road matches against Atlanta United and Toronto FC. New York and Atlanta clash on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. with coverage on MSG and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish.
