Portland wins their third straight, look for the series sweep on Wednesday

(Portland, ME) - The Portland Sea Dogs (4-2) made it three straight wins with a 4-3 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats (1-5) on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. In the ninth inning, the 'Cats scored twice off newcomer RHP Justin Hedrick but he retired 2B Steve Tolleson to end the game and secure his first save in the Red Sox system. Portland has won 4 of 6 to start the '09 campaign and can sweep the Rock Cats in the series finale on Wednesday night.

The game turned very dramatic in the 9th inning when DH Brian Dinkelman lined a 2-run triple in front of RF Bubba Bell, who fell short on a diving attempt to the end the game. 2B Steve Tolleson followed and ripped a ground ball to 3B Jorge Jimenez, who threw in the dirt, but was saved on a great pick-up by 1B Lars Anderson to end the game. Hedrick walked two and fanned two but earned in his first appearance in the Red Sox system.

RHP Junichi Tazawa (1-0) went six strong innings to earn his first professional win. Tazawa's only blemish came in the sixth inning when 3B Danny Valencia homered to left-center field. The righty yielded four hits, two walks and fanned three. RHP Blake Maxwell blanked New Britain over two innings to earn his first hold in Double-A.

CF Josh Reddick began the first inning with a solo homer over the right-field wall, his 4th of the season. Reddick has hit four solo-shots in 21 at-bats and can establish a franchise record for consecutive starts with a home run on Wednesday night (Kevin Millar homered in four straight games in 1997). Reddick scored the second run in the third inning on Anderson's run-scoring double to left-center field. LF Aaron Bates followed with an RBI bloop-single to right. Jimenez added the game-winning RBI with his run-scoring single in the fourth inning to plate DH Jon Still.

Notes...Tazawa earned the team's first quality start of the season...Hedrick was assigned to Portland earlier in the day when RHP Ryne Lawson was placed on the disabled list....Still went 2-for-2, BB and a run scored...Jimenez has the game-winning RBI in both games of the series...C Mark Wagner picked up his team-leading 8th walk of the season.
