Portland Falls 3-1 to Binghamton

Binghamton, NY - The Binghamton Mets (15-10) scored three unearned runs, and defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (10-15) 3-1 on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. The four-game series is tied at a game apiece - the 'Dogs are now 3-2 on their seven-game trip.

Binghamton snapped a 1-1 tie, scoring twice in the fifth inning off losing pitcher Mike McCarthy (2-3). Jared King reached on a throwing error by McCarthy to start the rally, and would advance to second on a throwing error by Luis Martinez. With two outs, T.J. Rivera and Josh Rodriguez nailed RBI singles, giving the B-Mets the lead for good.

Seth Lugo (2-0) scattered five hits, one walk and fanned six over 6.2 IP to earn his second win of the season. McCarthy yielded 3 unearned runs over 4.2 IP to suffer his second straight loss - both to the B-Mets.

Binghamton wrapped up the win with perfect outings from Adam Kolarek (1.1 IP, hold) and Paul Sewald (IP, 5th save).

Portland's bullpen retired all 10 batters faced. Dayan Diaz relieved McCarthy and pitched 2.1 on two strikeouts and Pat Light worked the eighth.

Both teams scored single runs in the second inning. Portland scored first for the 5th straight game on the trip, receiving a run-scoring from Blake Tekotte. Binghamton answered the bell, receiving a two-out RBI single from Gavin Cecchini.

The Sea Dogs and Binghamton Mets continue their four-game series on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. RHP William Cuevas (3-1, 3.44) gets the starting nod for Portland. RHP Rainy Lara (2-0, 2.91) takes the mound for Binghamton. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:15 PM on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network. MILB.TV starts at 6:30 PM.
