Bowie Drops RubberDucks 3-1
Published on May 5, 2015 under Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Bowie right-hander Bobby Bundy tossed 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, and catcher Chris O'Brien delivered a key two- run double Tuesday night, as the Baysox slipped by the Akron RubberDucks, 3-1, at Prince George's Stadium.
Turning Point
With Bowie leading, 1-0, the RubberDucks (12-13) loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning on a single and two walks from Bundy. Bowie manager Gary Kendall removed Bundy in favor of side-arm specialist Ben Rowen. Facing Akron's Tyler Naquin, Rowen induced a sharp, double-play grounder to short that ended the threat and the inning.
Mound Presence
The game was delayed by rain for one hour and 19 minutes, starting in the top of the second inning. Neither Akron starter Cody Anderson, nor Bowie starter Dylan Bundy, returned after the delay. Anderson (2-2) gave up a run on three singles and wild pitch in his lone inning of work, and ended up being saddled with the loss. Bobby Bundy (1-0), Dylan's older brother, took the mound following the delay and proceeded to toss 3 1/3 scoreless innings before being bailed out by Rowen in the fifth. Mychal Givens worked the final two innings for his fourth save.
Duck Tales
Jordan Smith drove in the only run of the game for the RubberDucks with a two-out, ninth-inning single off Givens. That RBI single snapped a 21-inning scoreless streak for Akron. With the tying runs on base, Given's recovered to strike out Bryson Myles to end the game. Todd Hankins had a pair of hits, going 2-4, with a stolen base, and extended his hitting streak to eight games (12-42, .286). Naquin was held hitless, snapping his eight-game hit streak.
