
RubberDucks & West Side Leader Announce 2015 Journalism Days

(AKRON, OHIO) May 5, 2015 - The West Side Leader and the Akron RubberDucks are presenting an exciting opportunity for young, aspiring journalists to see what it's like to cover a professional baseball team for a day!
Running Sunday's when the team is at home between May 31st and August 23rd, students who will be entering grades five through 12 in the fall are invited to come and take part in the West Side Leader's Journalism Days at Canal Park.
Students will have the chance to sit amongst beat reporters in the press box as they watch and write his or her very own story that will run in the West Side Leader!
Participants and a parent will be provided lunch and personalized credentials to allow them to get a first-hand look at what goes on behind the scenes in the press box during a RubberDucks game. From seeing how the scoreboard is operated, to peeking in on the RubberDucks' radio broadcasters, to visiting the Official Scorer, students will get an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look that will be sure to be an unforgettable experience!
Before the game, students will be able to take in batting practice from the RubberDucks' dugout and following the game, participants will get to travel down into the RubberDucks' clubhouse and conduct his or her own interviews with manager David Wallace and a RubberDucks player, just like professional sports journalists do!
Journalism Day is a unique and exciting experience that can help enrich a student's writing skills, confidence, and versatility, while also giving them a fun afternoon filled with stories to last a lifetime.
To apply for the West Side Leader Journalism Days, candidates need to submit why they should be considered in 50 words or less to reporter@akronrubberducks.com. Winners will be notified three to seven days before the game date.

- Held each Sunday from May 31 to Aug. 23

- Get a tour and cover the game from the press box like a reporter
- Interview manager David Wallace and a key player after the game
- Take in pre-game batting practice from the dugout
- Video board recognition
- Student journalist's story and photo will appear in the next issue of the West Side Leader
- Personalized credential and catered lunch for participant and a parent
- Meet with broadcasters David Wilson and Jim Clark of RubberDucks flagship Fox Sports Radio 1350 AM
