Asheville Tourists News Release
LAKEWOOD - The Asheville Tourists became the latest Lakewood BlueClaws victim in their 2018 shutout extravaganza. The BlueClaws broke out their Harry Potter magic to silence the Tourists bats and their Harry Potter brooms to sweep the Tourists.
Asheville was limited to five hits, all singles, in a 7-0 loss. The BlueClaws have now tossed 19 shutouts this season; over one-third of their wins. Lakewood scored six of their seven runs over the first four innings. The home team plated single runs through the first three frames before dropping a three-spot on Asheville in the fourth.
Asheville only managed to hit one ball out of the infield over the first five innings. Ryan Vilade hit a lead-off single to begin the game, but Andrew Brown retired 20 of the next 22 batters he faced to complete seven shutout innings for Lakewood. Vilade added a ninth inning single and was the only Tourists player to reach base more than once.
Asheville sent three over the minimum to the plate and totaled only three runs over 23 innings during the series; all three games victories by Lakewood.
The Tourists have dropped five in a row matching the most consecutive losses their have endured this season. Derrik Watson and Nate Harris did combine to toss two scoreless innings out of Asheville's bullpen.
Asheville will attempt to turn things around as the back end of their current seven-game road trip leads to Greensboro. The Tourists have won five of their six matchups against the Grasshoppers this year.
