CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston RiverDogs right-handed starter Rony Garcia has been promoted to the New York Yankees Advanced-A affiliate Tampa Tarpons after compiling 14 starts this season and 11 more with the RiverDogs in 2017.

The 20-year-old top-30 prospect threw 71 innings for the Holy City this season, posting a 3-4 record with a 4.18 ERA. Garcia struck out 62 batters while walking just 13 in his second season with Charleston. Last season, the Dominican Republic native joined the Dogs from Rookie-level Pulaski in early July and recorded a 2.24 ERA in 64 1/3 innings as a teenager.

Garcia becomes the seventh pitcher and the ninth player overall to join the High-A Tampa ranks from the Lowcountry. An international signing in 2015, he has 41 career Minor League appearances and 39 starts on his ledger with an 8-12 record and 2.98 ERA. He was graded the Yankees' No. 29 pre-season prospect according to Baseball America.

Replacing Garcia on the Dogs roster is 21-year-old righty Alex Mauricio, the Yankees' 27th round pick in 2017. The Norfolk State product began his second pro season with the Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League, compiling an 0-2 record despite a 2.14 ERA in four starts, striking out 21 in as many innings while issuing six walks.
