Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies fell to the Bowie Baysox 7-4 in a homerun filled affair Thursday night at Mirabito Stadium. Joey Ortiz two-run homer in the seventh inning proved to be the difference and Adley Rutschman's two-run shot in the ninth provided Bowie (23-8) the insurance they needed.

Binghamton (9-22) had cut the Baysox lead to 5-3 in the eighth inning on Mark Vientos two-run homer, but Rutschman drove the first pitch he saw in the ninth from RHP Jared Robinson over the left field wall to extend the lead back to four runs. All four Binghamton runs were via the long ball. Yoel Romero started the scoring with a solo shot in the third to give the Ponies a 1-0 lead, his first homer of the year. Carlos Cortes hit a solo homer in the ninth, his team-leading sixth of the season to cut the deficit to 7-4.

Bowie scored three runs in the fourth inning off Adam Oller (1-2) to take a 3-1 lead. Oller allowed 3 runs over 3.2 IP with four walks and four strikeouts. Baysox starter Cody Sedlock (1-0) earned the win as the right-hander allowed one run on five hits over five innings.

Ortiz home run in the seventh was his second two-run homer of the series. He finished 3-5 on Thursday with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

The Rumble Ponies continue their series with the Baysox on Friday night. First pitch is at 7:05 PM, with pregame coverage getting underway at 6:50 PM on milb.com. Fireworks presented by Miller Auto Team will follow the game.

POSTGAME NOTES: Vientos home run was his fourth of the year and he is second on the team behind Cortes...Bowie has taken two of the first three in the series...the two teams combined for 5 home runs.
