Pompey Lifts Herd in Extras, 4-3

July 19, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

Dalton Pompey's RBI single up the middle gave Buffalo a walk-off 4-3 victory in the 12th inning on Sunday at Coca-Cola Field, closing out the series against Columbus.

The Clippers had a 3-0 lead early in the game before Matt Hague tied the game in the eighth inning with a three run homer to left field. Hague's home run would set up dramatic comeback, but not until later in the game. Buffalo had chances throughout the game to win, leaving runners in scoring position in the last three innings before the 12th.

Columbus had walked three straight batters before Pompey would drive in the game winning run to complete the comeback and winning 4-3. "[Their pitcher] was all over the place. I was waiting until he gave me a strike, so I tried to zone him in the middle of the plate and that's what he did. So I hit it back up the middle."

It wasn't just Hague's three-run homer and Pompey's RBI late in the game that kept Buffalo from losing.

"Our pitchers kept us in the game," Pompey added. Pitching seven strong innings, the Bisons' bullpen produced six strikeouts and four hits, holding the Clippers to the three runs they earned early in the game.

Starter Scott Copeland pitched well on Sunday, even though he didn't earn the decision. Although Boyd allowed three runs in his outing, the lefty retired ten straight batters at the end of his start, pitching seven innings and striking out six in his third quality start for Buffalo.

"Overall, it was a good win," said Allenson. "Now we just have to take it one game at a time."

BISONS NOTES:

#MattVP continues to do #MattVP things. Hague hit his seventh homerun of the season and his second in four games for the Herd. Hague also tied the International League lead in RBI (60) in the victory on Sunday... Buffalo will continue their eight-game home stand on Monday against Syracuse at 7:05.
