Polo Leads Power to 8-1 Win over Legends

West Virginia leadoff hitter Tito Polo had four hits in five at bats and scored three runs as the Power defeated the Lexington Legends 8-1 Saturday night in Charleston.

The Power took the lead with a run in the first inning on a double by Polo and a single by Connor Joe. In the fourth, Polo walked, stole second, went to third on a single by Joe, and scored when Michael Suchy grounded into a force play.

A walk to Chase Simpson started a four-run fourth for West Virginia. With two outs, Simpson scored on a double by Polo, and Polo came home on a base hit by Kevin Kramer. Kramer moved to second on Joe's single, and Suchy walked, loading the bases. Walks to Jerrick Suiter and Elvis Escobar forced in two runs, and the Power had a 6-0 lead.

The Legends scored a run in the sixth on a single by DonAndre Clark and a double by Luis Valenzuela.

A triple by Kramer and a single by Suchy produced another run for West Virginia in the seventh. The Power added a final run in the eighth when Kramer's double scored Tyler Filliben, who had walked and moved to second on Polo's single.

West Virginia starter Colten Brewer (5-9) worked six and two-thirds innings and picked up the win. Legends starter Yunior Marte (4-4) was the losing pitcher.

Game two of the series will be played Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m.
