Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
Savannah, GA - The Sand Gnats shutout the Augusta GreenJackets on Saturday Night in a rain-shortened contest at Historic Grayson Stadium 2-0. The Sand Gnats have won 21 of their last 23 games.
The Gnats (40-18-1/79-49-1) got right to work after the one hour pre-game delay on Saturday. Catcher Natanael Ramos reached on a one-out single in the third and came home on an RBI-single from right fielder Wuilmer Becerra with the bases loaded.
Shortstop JC Rodriguez lined a leadoff double down the third base line in the fourth. Rodriguez moved to third on a ground out from first baseman Tyler Moore and scored on an RBI-single by left fielder Vicente Lupo.
Augusta (29-31/62-67) managed just two hits off Gnats' starter Martires Arias (7-5), who tossed his second consecutive complete game. Arias tossed 5.0 innings and struckout six in both rain-shortened games. The 'Jackets put runners at the corners with two outs in the second, but stranded the pair.
The Sand Gnats and GreenJackets will continue their six games in five days tomorrow at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats will send RHP Corey Oswalt (10-4, 3.44) to the hill, while the 'Jackets will start RHP Sam Coonrod (6-5, 3.31). Sunday will feature the final TailsSpin Bark in the Park and Kids Run the Bases after the game presented by Papa Murphy's. All kids 12 years and under will receive a voucher for one free hot dog and small soda. Gates will open at 1pm and first pitch is set for 2:05pm.
