Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (30-40) took game one of the series against the Louisville Bats (27-45), winning 3-2, Tuesday at Principal Park.
Matt Swarmer opened the game with three scoreless frames, using three punch outs to work around four singles. In his fourth and final inning, Swarmer got tagged for two runs when Alejo Lopez hit a bases-loaded double to give Louisville a 2-0 lead.
Iowa's starter allowed those two runs on six hits, while walking three and striking out four. He was taken off the hook in the bottom of the fifth, when Erick Castillo hit a two-run double of his own, bringing in Ian Miller and Abiatal Avelino.
Castillo stepped to the plate again in the following frame, and once again delivered for the I-Cubs. The catcher drove in another run on an RBI single, giving Iowa a 3-2 lead.
Scott Effross, Tony Cingrani and Jake Jewell combined to keep the Bats off the board for the final five frames, allowing just one hit collectively. With the scoreless outing from Iowa's bullpen, they were able to take game one of the series, going up 1-0 against the Bats.
