Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - A frustrating night at the ballpark suddenly turned to elation Sunday, as Hudson Byorick (JR Wofford) fought an 0-2 fastball into right to single home the walk-off winning run, giving the Pit Spitters a 2-1 victory over the Kenosha Kingfish, their ninth straight win.

The first seven innings of Sunday's contest belonged to the starting pitchers. Pit Spitters right hander Cade Heil (SO North Georgia) and Kingfish starter Keith Kutzler would trade zeroes through the first four innings, with Kutzler blinking first, yielding a single unearned run to the Pit Spitters in the fifth. Heil would end up taking a two-hit shutout into the eighth inning, before being lifted after allowing the first two batters of the inning to reach. His replacement, Kevin Hahn (SR Cal-State Stanislaus,) immediately induced a double play ball, but allowed the remaining inherited runner to score on a wild pitch, knotting the game up.

It looked like the game was destined for extra innings until a one out single in the bottom of the ninth from Adam Proctor (SO Michigan State,) his third of the game, ignited a late inning rally for the Pit Spitters. Proctor advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch, and then was driven home in dramatic style by a Hudson Byorick opposite field two-out single.

The win takes the Pit Spitters record to 21-13 with two games remaining in the first half of the Northwoods League schedule. The magic number for clinching the division sits at one.
