Pirates Acquire Fairchild and Stalberg on Loan

Saco, Maine - Phoenix Coyotes Assistant General Manager and Portland Pirates General Manager Brad Treliving announced today that the Phoenix Coyotes have acquired defenseman Cade Fairchild from the St. Louis Blues and have assigned him to the Portland Pirates. In a separate transaction, the Pirates have acquired Sebastian Stalberg from the San Jose Sharks on loan.

The 5-foot'11, 190 lbs Fairchild has spent the 2013-14 season with the Chicago Wolves. A native of Duluth, MN, Fairchild was a 2012 AHL All-Star and has spent 3 seasons in the AHL in the St. Louis Blues organization. Fairchild has played in 33 games for the Chicago Wolves this season, tallying 2 goals and 19 assists. A defenseman, the 25 year old Fairchild was selected by the Blues in the 4th round (96th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Stalberg, a 6-foot-1, 185 lbs. right wing from Lerum, Sweden has spent the 2013-14 season with the AHL's Worcester Sharks and the ECHL's San Francisco Bulls and Ontario Reign. The 24 year old forward has played in 102 career AHL games after a 3 year career at the University of Vermont.

The Pirates travel to St. John's to take on the IceCaps tonight at 6 PM EDT for the first game of a three game series. Tonight's game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR FM 105.5/AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County. The game can also be heard online at portlandpirates.com by clicking "Listen Live" and can be seen live on AHL Live at ahllive.com. The pregame show starts at 5:40 with Jeff Mannix.
