Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Renyel Pinto allowed just one hit-a first-inning double-in seven innings of work and Eddie Gaillard didn't allow a base hit over the final two innings as the Albuquerque Isotopes (18-8) shut out the Omaha Royals (13-11) Tuesday night, 4-0, at Isotopes Park.
A ground-rule double by Aaron Guiel was the lone blemish in a masterful outing by the left-hander Pinto (3-0). The 23-year-old has now gone a franchise-record 19.1 consecutive innings without allowing a run-a span of four starts. The previous mark was set by Nate Bump, who went 15.2 innings in 2003 without allowing a run to cross. Tuesday's effort by Pinto and Gaillard marked the first one-hitter in Isotopes history.
The 'Topes spotted Pinto two runs in the second and single tallies in the fourth and sixth innings to give him all the cushion he'd need. In the second, Chris Ashby hit a sacrifice fly to right, which plated Paul Hoover and handed the 'Topes a 1-0 lead. One batter later, Drew Niles singled through the left side, scoring Scott Seabol for a 2-0 Albuquerque advantage.
In the fourth, it was Ashby again at the forefront, this time providing a solo home run to left to lead-off the inning and put the 'Topes on top 3-0. The game would stay that way until the sixth when Mike Kinkade doubled home Mark Little for the fourth and final Isotope run of the evening.
Over seven innings, Pinto fanned five batters and walked just two in a 98-pitch outing. For the final two frames, Isotopes skipper Dean Treanor turned the ball over to Gaillard, who was immediately effective. The O-Royals went in order in the eighth and after an inning-opening walk in the ninth, Gaillard induced a pair of ground balls-the first resulting in a double play-to slam the door on the Albuquerque victory.
Offensively, the 'Topes managed 11 hits on the night. James Shanks, Hoover and Seabol each kicked in a pair. Eight of Albuquerque's nine starters recorded at least one hit.
O-Royals starter Brian Bass (1-3) took the loss. He allowed three runs-one earned-on eight hits in five innings of work. He struck out one and walked three. After Bass' exit, two Omaha relievers managed to hold the Isotopes to a run on three hits over the final three frames.
The 'Topes and O-Royals will hook up again on Wednesday. Albuquerque will send Yusmeiro Petit (2-1, 3.68) to the slab, and Omaha will counter with Danny Tamayo (2-1, 1.69).
Upcoming in this homestand is a special Cinco De Mayo Celebration at Isotopes Park, where a mariachi band will be on-hand to entertain fans throughout the game, which will be capped by a spectacular fireworks show. Tickets are available at the Isotopes Park Box Office, Ticketmaster outlets and on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com. For more information, please call (505) 924-2255.
