Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bats (29-33) received six strong innings in a spot start from Yohan Pino, who made just his second start for the Triple-A club this year. This wasn't enough however, as the Bats dropped the series finale to the Tides (37-35), 2-1.
Pino was given the start in Tony Cingrani's usual spot in the rotation, as Cingrani figures to be called up to the Reds. Pino had assumed the closer's role of late saving five of his six opportunities, but looked very good as a starter tonight. In six strong innings of work he gave up just one run on five hits, striking out six and not allowing a walk.
The Tides struck first in the third inning, all of the action coming with two outs. A single and a stolen base by outfielder Xavier Avery would allow Jason Pridie to single him home.
Josh Stinson was on the mound for the Tides, and the Bats managed eight hits and two walks through his 6.1 innings, but only one run. The one run came in the bottom of the sixth on a Neftali Soto solo shot to left-center, his sixth homer of the season.
With the score tied at one, Jose Diaz (L, 1-4) entered for the Bats. After a solid seventh inning, Pridie hit a leadoff double for the Tides and would eventually score on a Zelous Wheeler single, giving the Tides a 2-1 lead.
Trailing by one going into the bottom of the ninth, Jason Donald lined a double down the left field line. Corky Miller successfully bunted Donald to third, but Kristopher Negron popped out on the infield for the second out. With Billy Hamilton representing the last hope for the Bats, he grounded softly up the middle, but the shortstop ranged to his left and retired Hamilton at first base by a step.
Jason Donald returned to the lineup for the first time since April 26 after a shoulder strain, and looked very good in his return, going 3-for-4.
Despite the loss and dropping three of four games to the Tides, the Bats reached double digits in hits all four games.
The Bats begin a four game set on Saturday, and will welcome the Durham Bulls to town. The Bats' RHP Armando Galarraga (4-3, 2.70) will face Bulls' RHP Matt Buschmann (0-0, 1.35) in the first game of the series. Saturday's game features Breakin' Bboy Mccoy, and a Long John Silver's fish fry. There will also be a Bats' logo duffel bag giveaway to the first 2,500 fans in attendance.
