Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

RAIN GAME: Last night's scheduled contest between the RailRiders and Chiefs at NBT Bank Stadium was rained out. It marked SWB's ninth rainout of the season, and seventh on the road. The teams will make it up as part of a June 26 twinbill.

RALLY TO ROLL: A day after the RailRiders rallied for their eighth come-from-behind win of the season, they hung eight runs on the board without a response for an 8-0 whitewashing of the Syracuse Chiefs on Wednesday night.

DOMINANT: Starter Ivan Nova (1-0) hurled six scoreless innings in his first minor league appearance since 2011. He was perfect through three and faced just one over the minimum with whiffing six. The Chiefs tagged him with just two hits, both singles. Nova logged his longest outing of 2013.

ADD IT UP: Addison Maruszak extended his season-long hitting streak to 10 games with his second-inning RBI double. During his string of success, he has hit .382 (13-for-34) with four doubles, one triple, one homer, seven RBIs and nine runs scored. He has lifted his season-long contact clip from .194 on May 17 to .245. Before the streak, he had not owned an average that good since May 7.

THE MOOSE IS LOOSE: Ronnier Mustelier singled and scored in the win. Entering play on May 14, he was a .167 hitter with two RBIs and two extra-base hits. He has hit safely in 19 of 21 since then, connecting at a .362 (34-for-94) clip with three home runs, 17 RBIs and an OPS of .892. He has hit safely in eight straight and has reached safely with a hit or walk in 16 consecutive games.

BAKER'S DOZEN: The RailRiders have gone deep in a season-high seven straight games. The team has belted 13 homers during that stretch, including three by Melky Mesa, all in the last five contests.

MELK - DOES A LINEUP GOOD: It has not been just home runs for Mesa at the start of June. In five games, the early showing this month has Mesa 8-for-20 (.400) with his three homers, five RBIs and six runs scored.

NORTHERN EXPOSURE: These meetings with Syracuse mark the RailRiders' first with a fellow IL North squad since they last clashed with the Chiefs on April 22. SWB improved to 8-8 with its 8-1 win over Syracuse that night. Thereafter, Dave Miley's team went 17-23 (.425) while playing exclusively IL West and South competition. These games against the Chiefs ignite a run of 17 straight contests for SWB against its IL North brothers. Starting with Tuesday's 6-4 SWB win over the Chiefs, 64 of the RailRiders' last 88 games (73%) come against divisional foes.

ROSTER MOVES: Before Wednesday's game, the New York Yankees announced multiple roster moves for SWB. Right-hander Cody Eppley was granted his release while right-handed starter Caleb Cotham was sent back to Double-A Trenton on the heels of his second straight Triple-A win. Infielder Luke Murton was placed on the roster of Short Season-A Staten Island and two fresh faces joined SWB in infielder Walter Ibarra and right-hander Matt Daley.

SMASHING DEBUT: Ibarra's first Triple-A game came with a two-run tater in his first plate appearance. He also singled and scored two runs in total. He had one home run with Trenton before his promotion and had 13 on his eight-year pro career over 436 games and 1,489 at-bats before his PNC Field blast.

HUFF STUFF: David Huff also made his SWB debut and did so with three scoreless frames for a save. Huff is no stranger to the level. He first reached Triple-A in 2008 with the Indians, the only organization he had known before shifting to the Yankees on a waiver claim late last month. He had started 101 of his 104 games through 2012 before moving to Columbus' bullpen two appearances into 2013.
