Kamloops Blazers News Release
Kamloops, BC - The Kamloops Blazers had two players selected in the 2016 NHL Draft. Forward Garrett Pilon was chosen by the Washington Capitals in the third round, 87th overall and goaltender Connor Ingram was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the third round, 88th overall.
Pilon had an outstanding rookie season with the Blazers with 15 goals, 32 assists and 47 points in 71 games. He also added two goals and an assist in seven playoff games.
The 5'11" and 175lb forward was the Blazers rookie of the year this past season. He also led the Saskatchewan Midget AAA League in scoring during the 2014-15 season with 87 points in 44 games.
Ingram put together one of the best seasons by a goaltender in franchise history. He played in 61 games in his sophomore year going 34-15-5-4 with a 2.61 goals against average and a .922 save percentage. His save percentage broke a franchise record set by Corey Hirsch during the 1991-92 season of a .920 save percentage.
The 6'1" and 195lb goaltender from Imperial, SK was even better in the playoffs with a 2.12 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.
Ingram was one of four goaltenders recently selected to attend Canada's National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp in July and August.
Pilon was originally a seventh round pick by the Blazers in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, while Ingram was never selected in the WHL Bantam Draft or in the 2015 NHL Draft when he was first eligible.
In total, 34 WHL players were selected in the 2016 NHL Draft.
