Prince George Cougars News Release
Prince George, B.C. - The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce that 1998-born defenceman Josh Anderson (Duncan, BC) has been selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the third round (71st overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft.
Checking in at 6'3" and 210 pounds, Anderson was originally selected third overall by the Cougars in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. During the 2015-16 season, Anderson dressed in 39 games and registered a goal, five assists and 86 penalty minutes. In 83 career WHL games, Anderson has three goals, seven assists and 140 penalty minutes.
Internationally Anderson represented Canada in 2014 at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and prior to last season he attended Team Canada's U-18 Summer Development Camp. Earlier this month he attended the NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo.
"The Colorado Avalanche are getting a player with exceptional talent, leadership and character. Josh is a fearless competitor who is very difficult to play against and he's only going to get better with time," comments Cougars General Manager, Todd Harkins. "He has overcome some big obstacles and worked very hard to get to this point, and we couldn't be happier for Josh and his family as they are welcomed to the Colorado Avalanche organization today."
With today's selection, Anderson becomes the second Cougar to ever be selected by the Avalanche (Troy Bourke, 2012, also Round 3). He's the highest Cougars defenceman selected in the NHL Draft since Ty Wishart in 2006 (Round 1, 16th overall).
Day 2 of the NHL Draft continues this morning from Buffalo, NY and can be seen live on Sportsnet. You can also follow along HERE: http://bit.ly/1ecG87Z.
