Pigs Plate Seven at Toledo
July 21, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The IronPigs matched a franchise record with eight doubles in a 7-1 win over the Toledo Mud Hens on Saturday in Ohio. The win secures a successful road trip for the Pigs as they move back to a season-high 20 games above .500.
Lehigh Valley brought nine batters to the plate in the third inning against Kyle Funkhouser (0-2), as Ryan Goins, Adron Chambers, and Dylan Cozens all doubled to score four runs. The Pigs collected another pair of runs in the sixth inning with another pair of doubles from Goins and Chambers.
In the ninth inning, Chambers collected his third double to tie a franchise record and eventually score another run. Even through the flurry of extra-base-hits, the Pigs failed to hit a home run for the fourth straight game.
Cole Irvin tossed five innings for the Pigs while allowing only one run and striking out eight to earn the win. The southpaw picked up his first win since June 10th to move to 9-3 on the season. Out of the bullpen, the Pigs relied on a platoon of Tyler Gilbert, Tom Windle, and Zac Curtis to keep the Mud Hens off of the board the rest of the way.
Lehigh Valley will try to win the series tomorrow as they wrap up their seven game road trip. Jacob Waguespack will climb the hill for the Pigs, as he looks for his second straight win. First pitch from Fifth-Third Field will come at 6:05 p.m.
