Louisville Bats News Release
BATS GO FOR THE HIGH FIVE: The Louisville Bats won their fourth straight game on Friday night, defeating the Syracuse Chiefs by a 5-0 score to take the first 2 games of the series. Left-hander Justin Nicolino went 7.0 scoreless innings in the Bats' second shutout in its last three games. Tonight, Louisville will try to tie its season-high, 5-game winning streak with right-hander Jose Lopez on the mound.
AGAINST SYRACUSE: The Bats and Chiefs are facing off for the first time since April, with Syracuse taking two of three in that series. Louisville's lone win in that series came in the middle game, on Thunder At Slugger Day in front of a record crowd of 14,658. Last season, the Bats won the season series against the Chiefs by a 4-3 advantage, taking two of three at home and splitting a four-game series at Syracuse. Louisville's next win against Syracuse will be its 100th win all-time against them.
TRANSACTIONS: The Cincinnati Reds recalled from Class AAA Louisville infielder Brandon Dixon . In 49 games in a Bats uniform this season, Dixon is batting .346 (62-for-179) with 28 runs, 18 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs, 23 RBI, 12 walks and 9 stolen bases. In 12 games since being optioned on July 4, Dixon is batting .400 (20-for-50) with 12 runs, 6 doubles, one triple, 2 homers, 9 RBI, 3 walks and one stolen base, with his 12 runs and 1.114 OPS both leading the International League in that span, and his 20 hits tied for most. Earlier this road trip, Dixon (4-for-5, 4 R, 2B, 3B, HR, 3 RBI) hit for the sixth cycle in Louisville history on July 17 at Rochester.
-Louisville also added catcher Morgan Lofstrom , who was added to the roster back on May 8 from Class A Dayton, but did not appear in a game. In 29 games between Dayton and High-A Daytona this season, Lofstrom is batting .222 (20-for-90) with 5 doubles, one home run and 8 RBI.
-On Friday, the Bats added outfielder Brian O'Grady to their roster from Class AA Pensacola. In 63 games for the Blue Wahoos this season, he is batting .258 (46-for-178) with 12 doubles, 4 triples, 6 home runs and 30 RBI.
ONE RUN ALLOWED IN THREE GAMES: The Bats have allowed just one run in their past 3 games, winning by 2-0, 11-1 and 5-0 scores, respectively. It's the first time LOU has won two shutout games in a three-game span since June 8-9, winning back-to-back by 3-0 and 2-0 scores. One run allowed in three games is Louisville's best three-game stretch since June 14-16, 2013, when the Bats won 3 straight by 1-0, 2-1 and 1-0 scores, all at Norfolk.
PITCH PERFECT: During its last 3 games, Louisville pitching has combined for a spectacular 0.33 ERA (1ER/27.0IP) with 11 walks and 22 strikeouts. Louisville starting pitchers have also not allowed its opponent to score off them in the last 3 games, with MLB rehabber Homer Bailey (7/18) and left-hander Justin Nicolino (7/20) each tossing 7.0 scoreless innings in their starts, tying today's starter Jose Lopez for longest scoreless start by a Bats pitcher this season, with Cody Reed (7/19) throwing 3.2 scoreless innings in his start before being removed from the game.
