Pigs Fall in Series Opener to Wings, 13-1

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (63-79) dropped the series opener to the Rochester Red Wings (75-67) by a score of 13-1 on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Doug Bernier's two-run single in the top of the third gave Rochester a 2-0 lead.

In the home half of the fourth, Tyler Pastornicky led off with a single, took second on a passed ball and scored on Jordan Danks' (2-4, 2B, RBI) RBI ground-rule double to bring the Pigs within 2-1.

A six-run fifth opened up an 8-1 lead for the Red Wings. Eric Farris and Jose Martinez each came through with two-run singles, Reynaldo Rodriguez plated a run with an RBI double and Argenis Diaz knocked home a run with an RBI single.

Pigs starter Anthony Vasquez (8-8) allowed seven runs on nine hits while walking and fanning a pair in 4.1 IP.

Red Wings starter Jose Berrios (6-2) gave up one run on three hits to go along with a walk and five strikeouts in five innings of work.

A five-run eighth gave the Wings a 13-1 advantage. Danny Ortiz hit a grand slam off of RHP Jason Berken (3.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, BB, 4 K) and Farris came through with an RBI single.

LHP Joey DeNato (1.1 IP, 2 BB, K) had a scoreless outing in relief for the IronPigs.

The series continues on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. as Pigs RHP Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez (0-1, 15.00) gets the ball against Rochester RHP Michael Bowden (10-5, 2.68).
