Bisons Lose 6-2 for Their Seventh in a Row

Buffalo Bisons News Release
Scott Copeland went 5.1 innings on Saturday but ultimately ended up with his sixth loss of the season.
Maybe Scott Copeland could have been the answer.
Entering Saturday on a six-game losing streak, the Bisons turned to one of their most reliable starting pitchers and the recipient of the Warren Spahn Award to stop the streak and begin the final series of the season on a high note.
But like the previous six games, the offense had its fair share of problems. It didn't change on the seventh.
For the seventh consecutive game, the Herd lost, most recently dropping a 6-2 matchup against Pawtucket on Saturday night in the first game of the final series of the season at McCoy Stadium. The Bisons have not won a game in the month of September.
The usually consistent Copeland did not have his best stuff on Saturday allowing four earned runs in 5.1 innings of work in his sixth loss of the season. He also struggled with his control, allowing four free passes and gave up nine hits in the process.
Arguably, Copeland's worst frame was the second inning, where he gave up three straight hits and allowed a run with only one out in the frame. But International League MVP Matt Hague made a nifty play to begin the 5-4-3 double play and bail Copeland out of the predicament.
After the rough inning, Copeland finally settled down, allowing only one hit over the next three innings and looked to regain his composure.
Then, there was the sixth.
Aneury Taverez belted a two-run homer to deep center field to take a four-run lead. Copeland was removed from the game after a proceeding walk and double.
Ben Rowen relieved the usually consistent Copeland, and immediately intentionally walked the first batter to load the bases. He then proceeded to strike out the final two batters to leave the inning unscathed. It was the only two batters he competitively faced.
The Bisons scored their lone runs of the game when it was nearly out of reach.
Not surprisingly, the teams' best player broke the offensive drought. Hague smacked a sharp liner to left to score two and put Buffalo on the board. Hague only grabbed one hit and sits at 176 for the season, still five hits shy of tying Jhonny Peralta for the franchise record in a season.
Bobby Korecky gave up two earned runs in his one inning of relief. Despite a rough night, he made his 125th appearance for the club, second in modern franchise history.
The Bisons will continue its final leg of the season on Sunday when it takes on Pawtucket in the second of three games. The game will begin at 6:05 p.m.
