Toledo Mud Hens News Release
It was a tough night on Saturday for the Hens, as they would have their five-game winning streak snapped by the Indians. Indianapolis broke out their offense in the first inning, and never looked back. Toledo lost 9-2, tallying just seven hits on the road at Victory Field.
Indianapolis jumped all over Cessa in the first inning. The Indians had two runs before a single out was recorded, getting three straight hits to start the game, including back-to-back RBI doubles from Gorkys Hernandez and Travis Ishikawa. With the bases loaded and one out, Tony Sanchez singled in two more runs to put the Indians up 4-0. Cessa would last only three and two-thirds innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out five batters and walking four.
The Mud Hens got on the board in the fourth inning. Manny Pina, who's been on fire for the last month, homered for his third game in a row. Leading off the inning, Pina sent the third pitch of his at bat over the left field fence to pull the Hens within three.
In the fifth inning, with Melvin Mercedes pitching, the Indians answered with two more runs. In the sixth, they put up a three spot to take a 9-1 lead. Alberto Cabrera came on in the seventh and settled the game down, and Toledo was able to get a run back in the top of the eighth. With Trayvon Robinson on third and Alexi Casilla on second, Jefry Marte knocked into an RBI groundout to pull the score to 9-2.
Indianapolis starting pitcher Vance Worley threw an outstanding game for the Indians, going eight innings and striking out six batters. Frank Herrmann came on for the ninth inning, closing the door on the Hens to seal the victory for Indy.
The Mud Hens head to Columbus on Sunday to take on the Clippers, playing at 6:05 p.m.
