Pigs Earn Split in Syracuse
July 5, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
In a rain-shortened contest in Syracuse, the IronPigs were able to take the finale of their four-game series with the Syracuse Chiefs 5-2. The win splits the series for the two teams at two games each, and it maintains the Pigs' lead on top of the IL North Division.
For the second night in a row, Lehigh Valley plated a pair of runs in the first inning, thanks to consecutive run scoring singles from Mitch Walding and Joey Meneses. Trevor Plouffe eventually added another run in the third inning with a two-out double to score Walding, all off of Phillips Valdez.
The Pigs finally chased Valdez (3-5) in the fifth inning, when both Plouffe and Colin Cowgill smacked solo home runs to push the lead to three. Plouffe ended the day going 2-for-4 with the home run and a pair of RBIs. Danny Espinosa was hoping to contribute to the lead in the eighth inning, but the falling rain to begin the frame eventually forced the early call.
Enyel De Los Santos produced another high quality day for the IronPigs on the mound, allowing only two runs over six innings with a pair of strikeouts. An Andrew Stevenson home run was the only true issue for De Los Santos, who picked up his ninth win of the season.
Lehigh Valley returns to Coca-Cola Park on Friday for a weekend series against the Rochester Red Wings leading into the All-Star Break. Cole Irvin will take the mound for the IronPigs tomorrow night, with first pitch coming at 7:05 p.m.
The 2018 Season is the IronPigs' 11th season at Coca-Cola Park and 11th as the top affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. Fans can get closer to the team than ever before with a Bacon, USA membership -- a year-round IronPigs experience pass featuring numerous amenities such as savings on parking at games and at the Majestic Clubhouse Store at Coca-Cola Park, on-field VIP access to watch batting practice, access to the annual holiday party, and more.
