Louisville Bats News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Louisville Bats (33-48) were defeated by the Indianapolis Indians (45-38) by a 4-2 score Wednesday night at Victory Field. Louisville had its three-game winning streak against the Indians on the Fourth of July snapped with the loss tonight.

Right-hander Domingo Tapia (3-4, 4.01) made the spot start in place of originally scheduled left-hander Cody Reed, who was recalled to Cincinnati shortly before the game. Tapia got the loss, going 3.0 innings and giving up one earned run on two hits, walking one and striking out two on 38 pitches (23 strikes). It was Tapia's third start of the season for Louisville.

The Indians led 4-0 after four frames, with RBI hits from Jordan Luplow and Jose Osuna, followed by a run-scoring double play and a wild pitch from Bats right-hander Evan Mitchell.

The Bats would make it a game in the top of the fifth, scoring a pair of runs on an RBI hit by pinch-hitter Steve Selsky and another RBI hit from leadoff batter Mason Williams. The Bats brought the potential leading run to the plate in the inning, but it did not materialize into anything in the 4-2 loss.

Indianapolis starting pitcher, left-hander Brandon Waddell (3-4, 6.51) had his strongest start of the season, going 7.0 and only allowing two earned runs in the win.

The Bats and Indians play one more Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Robert Stephenson (7-6, 3.60) will start for Louisville, while Indianapolis is set to throw right-hander Mitch Keller (0-0, 27.00). The Bats return home Friday, July 6 to face the Toledo Mud Hens in a three-game series heading into the All-Star Break.
