Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Lehigh Valley dropped their fourth straight game for the first time in 2018, falling to the Bats 5-3 in Louisville. The Bats plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the 5-3 lead.
Ranger Suarez allowed three runs in five-innings but did not earn a decision in the start. He scattered six-hits while allowing three runs, two earned. Mark Leiter Jr allowed one hit and struck out one in his lone inning in relief.
With the Pigs trailing 2-0 in the top of the fourth, Mitch Walding doubled to cut the deficit in half and make it 2-1. After Louisville added a run in the sixth, Danny Ortiz singled to score a pair and tie the game at three.
The Bats took the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth inning against Tyler Gilbert (0-1). After Gilbert recorded the first two outs of the inning via the strikeout, the Bats plated a pair of two-out runs in to take the lead. Taylor Sparks broke the tie with a RBI single and Josh VanMeter added insurance with a run scoring double to make it 5-3.
The IronPigs were limited to just five hits in the game against the Bats. Lucas Sims allowed one run over six-innings and struck out seven for the Bats. Bats' pitchers struck out 13 and limited Lehigh Valley to just 2-6 with runners in scoring position.
